On the Charge: Vision EQXX Completes Third 1,000km Journey

The-all electric Mercedes Vision EQXX has completed its third journey of over 1,000km on just a single charge.

Having set off from the Mercedes-Benz Center in Riyadh with full battery, the EQXX arrived at the Mercedes-Benz Brand Center in Dubai 15 hours later with 309km (192 miles) of range remaining.

The route, which took in areas of built-up traffic in urban and sub-urban areas as well as desert, was 1,010km (627.6 miles) long.

Data at the end of the journey showed that the Vision EQXX had a delivered an electrical power consumption of 7.4kwh/100km – the equivalent to 0.9 litres per 100km or 282 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in a petrol-powered car.

These numbers bettered those produced by the car on previous long-distance runs and were set in much hotter average temperatures (34C ) across the desert.

Such conditions allowed the car to demonstrate the strength of its advanced thermal management system – which keeps the electrical drivetrain and cabin cool, and the 117-celled solar roof on top of the car.

Both passed the 1,000km examination with flying colours, with the latter harvesting 1.8kwh energy, adding approximately 24km of range to the overall journey.

The electric drive of the Vision EQXX was developed in conjunction with the engineers from our teams in Brackley and Brixworth when first launched in January 2022.

Further Formula One technology can be found in the upper section of the battery, which is made from sustainable carbon-fibre-sugar composite material and helps provide the revolutionary lightweight design concept with an impressive power-to-weight ratio.

Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer said: “The VISION EQXX continues to provide valuable data for ongoing development of advanced electric efficiency technologies.

“As expected, all systems performed perfectly in the desert conditions, handling challenges such as road surface finish and temperature as well as dust with ease. Further proof that electric drive is ready for global markets.”

This was the third 1,000km+ journey completed on a single charge by the EQXX, after successful missions between Cassis and Stuttgart, and Stuttgart and Silverstone.
