Mercedes-Benz DTM driver Pascal Wehrlein lined up for the prestigious Race of Champions in Barbados last weekend (December 13th - 14th) for the first time in his career.
On Saturday, in the ROC Nations Cup team event, the Mercedes junior along with his team-mate, reigning GP2 champion Jolyon Palmer, took three wins in Group A (two for Wehrlein, one for Palmer).
In Sunday’s Race of Champions individual competition, Wehrlein made it through to the final against David Coulthard. The Scot, who himself is a former member of the Mercedes-Benz DTM squad and a current brand ambassador, came out on top in both races to pick up the 2014 Race of Champions winners trophy.
The Race of Champions was held at the Bushy Park track in Barbados for the first time. Apart from Wehrlein, other drivers taking part included former Mercedes-Benz DTM driver Susie Wolff and reigning FIA Formula 3 European champion Esteban Ocon.
Wehrlein also posted demo runs in a MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Silver Arrow. The youngest race winner in the 30-year history of the DTM has also been an official test and reserve driver for the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One team in 2014 and wowed spectators in Barbados by posting demo laps and performing doughnuts in an F1 W03 from the 2012 season.
Pascal Wehrlein: “Participating in the Race of Champions for the first time was a great experience. The fact that I made it through to the final in my first appearance at the Race of Champions makes it all the more special. Hats off to David. He put in a fantastic performance in every car today and is a worthy winner. I’ve really enjoyed the races at the track in Bushy Park, and the demo laps in the Formula 1 Silver Arrow were just as much fun. I did everything I could to give the fans a good show and I hope that the spectators enjoyed it as much as I did. This weekend made the perfect end to a fantastic season for me.”
