Since 2013, Nico Rosberg has served as an ambassador for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. And, during the 2015 Chinese Grand Prix weekend, he was announced as the man to spearhead the latest Laureus campaign – #DriveForGood – which will see Mercedes-Benz donate 100 euros for each racing kilometer lead by Nico this season.
With special Laureus branding having featured on his overalls throughout the Grand Prix weekend in Shanghai, Nico also volunteered to sign and auction his race suit – with proceeds to be donated to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
The KICKFORMORE project, which will benefit from the auction, involves setting up a special street football league. The emphasis here is not only on the specific rules that apply in street football – but also on social skills and community building. The youngsters at whom the project is aimed play an active and creative role in the initiative by grouping themselves into teams which not only compete in regular fixtures, but undertake the organisation, planning and management of the league entirely by themselves.
The purpose of the project is to encourage the personal development of teenagers and young adults by means of social and intercultural exchange and a willingness to engage in open dialogue. Participants are expected to get the project off the ground using their own initiative, to discover what it means to achieve something great entirely of their own accord and to be recognised for doing so.
The auction is taking place on the United Charity online platform. Click here to check it out.
