I was fortunate enough to experience up close and personal the magic of a Formula One car out of its intended race track surroundings. Very few fans have had the experience to be inches away from a Formula One car when its engine is started and seeing the drivers get into gear before jumping in the car... what a privilege having a grid walk during a race weekend must be!
Throughout the Goodwood Festival of Speed I was able to witness a few special moments with the Mercedes GP drivers and team personnel. Big names were on display that weekend and fortunately I was able to meet Nico Rosberg and Nick Heidfeld who were on driving duties on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The Mercedes GP team prepared the car that was on display on Friday ready to see some action on the following days. By any means, the cars weren't intending to break the record going up the hill, however the excitement and emotion that a Formula One engine, smoking tires and insanely high revs produce is something not to be missed.
Nowadays Formula One cars are not timed in their runs up the Goodwood hillclimb, however it's important to remember that Nick owns the record set back in 1999.
All in all, it was an amazing experience and thanks to Mercedes GP for taking their car and putting it on display. What a fantastic experience it was and may the Silver Arrows reclaim their winning ways and past glory.
