Lewis & Nico Attend IWC Schaffhausen ‘Aquatimer’ Unveiling

To mark the launch of its new ‘Aquatimer’ collection, IWC Schaffhausen, the Official Engineering Partner of the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, yesterday invited around 800 guests from all over the world to the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) for a very special evening.

The Swiss luxury watch manufacturer transported its Friends of the Brand – including MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg – to a unique setting that simulated the world both above and below the ocean surface.

In the afternoon, Nico and Lewis – alongside a host of other VIP guests – had the opportunity to discover the incredible beauty of the Galapagos Islands when CEO Georges Kern invited them to IWC Schaffhausen’s booth; this year dedicated entirely to one of the world’s greatest diving attractions. Guests were plunged into an Aquatimer themed world covering almost 1,000 square metres at the SIHH exhibition complex; featuring handmade hammerhead sharks and shoals of fish projected onto the walls.

Ewan McGregor opened IWC’s ‘Inside the Wave’ gala evening, on the occasion of the SIHH watch salon. As part of an enchanted evening packed with poetry, breathtaking acrobatics and dynamic dance theatre, the Hollywood star narrated a story designed especially for IWC by Cirque du Soleil, whose artists examined the mysteries of time with musical interludes provided by former Supertramp vocalist Roger Hodgson.

The glamorous gala evening may have been dedicated to the re-launch of the traditional Aquatimer family, but it was far more than simply an appropriate setting in which to celebrate IWC’s new products. It also stylishly underscored the anniversary of the Charles Darwin Research Station; a scientific institution set up on the Galapagos Islands by the Charles Darwin Foundation, with which IWC Schaffhausen has maintained a partnership since 2009.
