The German edition of GQ magazine has honoured Michael with its ‘Man of the Year’ award in the sport category in Berlin last weekend, celebrating his Formula One comeback with the team this year.
Editor-in-chief José Redondo Vega commented in his editorial: “We were greatly impressed that Michael has returned to something he is really passionate about and to do so whilst risking damage to the near mythical status he has achieved. We found so much passion worthy of an award. Michael’s readiness to take risks and his willingness to live for the present and not in the past deserve recognition.”
This was the twelfth time that the men's magazine and its publisher Condé Nast have hosted their GQ Man of the Year awards which is one of the most prestigious social events on the calendar in Germany. In a glamorous setting, the GQ awards were presented to personalities from Germany and abroad who have made an outstanding contribution in the worlds of showbusiness, music, sport, culture and fashion.
In 2007, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver and 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton won the top accolade of GQ Man of the Year. Also on stage over the years to receive or present prizes have been celebrity names such as Nicolas Cage, Diane Kruger, Sir Christopher Lee, Giorgio Armani, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Gunter Sachs, Ulrich Mühe, Elizabeth Hurley and Josh Hartnett.
