Nick Fry, our Chief Executive Officer, recently met with volunteers from the Brackley Area Volunteer Car Service to find out more about how the charity helps people in Brackley, the town where our factory is based.
The scheme, managed by snvb, uses volunteer drivers to take people living in Brackley or surrounding villages to medically related or other social care appointments where there is no reasonable way for them to travel. The service will also take people to visit relatives who are in hospital or residential care. Volunteer drivers use their own cars and give their time for free with passengers paying a mileage charge to help cover the fuel costs and an annual registration fee.
From April 2009 to March 2010, the Brackley drivers completed 2622 journeys totaling 23,995 miles, ensuring that local people could attend vital appointments.
Nick knows the benefits of such initiatives firsthand: “The Brackley Area Volunteer Car Service provides an invaluable service to the local community. My father drove for his local car scheme so I know how essential this service is to the local people. It is evident that snvb runs a scheme which strives for excellence and is keen to welcome new passengers. If you could benefit from their support or know someone that could, then contact snvb to find out more.”
