‘Things Can Change Quickly’: Lewis and George Positive Heading into Melbourne

After three busy weeks in the Middle East to start the 2024 Formula One season, Lewis and George have arrived in Australia having had time to reflect on the first two races.

While the team has not had the start to the season it was hoping for, both drivers know two races in Formula One doesn’t always tell the full story, especially with 22 races still to go.

“You have to be conscious it’s a very long season, and things can change,” said Lewis.

“The other teams have done an amazing job, and the competition is even closer than it was last year.”

George’s focus also remains on the bigger picture going forward in 2024. “There’s a mountain to climb but things change very quickly in this sport,” he said.

“If someone had said last year that Aston Martin would finish fifth in the Constructors’ after five podiums in the first six races, you wouldn’t have believed them.”

Despite a challenging start to the year, both drivers remain positive about the direction our W15 is heading in.

“We’ve learnt so much from those first two races,” said George.

“If you take Red Bull out of the battle it’s a really exciting situation behind.”

Lewis agreed: “We had a really good winter. It is a much better race car to drive, but it’s all about getting the right working window with these cars.

He added that the early season setbacks have not dampened the team’s spirit.

“I do believe we still have that winning mindset within the team,” Lewis said. “These guys will fix any problems we have.

“We will get there.

“To finish second in the Constructors’ last year with a car that wasn’t perfect really shows what we can do. I’m hoping we can do the same again. If we can fight for wins and podiums that would be amazing.”

With Melbourne in mind, the team are hoping that W15 will be able to demonstrate its strengths on the streets of Albert Park.

“We’re grinding to pick up performance and get to where we need to be,” said Lewis.

“Our car has been strong in the medium and slow speed corners and there are more of those here.

“We’re going to be giving it everything.”
