Mercedes-AMG F1 Applied Science is a business division of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team which provides bespoke engineering services combining world-class talent and a high-performance culture with cutting-edge technical capability.

Extracting marginal gains at the leading edge of engineering and aerodynamics requires exceptional people. With the new Formula One regulations requiring teams to operate within a fixed budget cap, Mercedes-AMG F1 Applied Science was created to enable the diversification of the company to tackle new and exciting engineering challenges beyond Formula One.

The America's Cup

Mercedes-AMG F1 Applied Science has come together with Sir Ben Ainslie’s British America’s Cup team to form INEOS Britannia, bringing together the best of the worlds of high-performance marine and automotive engineering, with the goal to win the America’s Cup for Britain.

The America’s Cup is sport’s oldest international trophy, predating the modern Olympic Games by 45 years. Whilst the Cup started in Britain with a race around the Isle of Wight, it has never been won by a British team since.

Backing the America’s Cup team is INEOS and INEOS’s Chairman and Founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

James Allison will be the technical lead in his capacity as Chief Technical Officer of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and INEOS Britannia.

Team Principal Ben Ainslie will skipper INEOS Britannia.

The integration of INEOS Britannia and Mercedes-AMG F1 Applied Science brings together the best of the America’s Cup and Formula One, based in Brackley, home of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team.

It was immediately clear to us that the America’s Cup is a very exciting, and very difficult, challenge. We feel very lucky to be involved in this opportunity and we can’t wait for the challenge ahead, it’s a mouth-watering prospect.
