Our Net Zero journey is defined by practical problem solving. We’re cutting emissions where we have the most control - from race logistics to our factory operations - while pushing for system-wide change in the toughest areas, like aviation.

We report on two types of footprint - our Race Team Control emissions (Scopes 1, 2 & partial Scope 3 emissions), and our total emissions (Scopes 1, 2 & 3).

We’ve set two clear targets:

Race Team Control Net Zero by 2030

  • 75% reduction in emissions we directly control (Scopes 1, 2 and select 3), with the remainder compensating via high-quality carbon removals, in line with the Oxford Offsetting Principles.

Full Net Zero across all scopes by 2040

  • Tackling the harder-to-abate emissions across our entire value chain - most of which come from purchased goods and services in our supply chain.

In 2024, we reduced our Race Team Control emissions by 35% compared to 2022, thanks in part to:

  • 98% use of HVO100 biofuel across our European season logistics

  • 68% of aviation emissions addressed with Sustainable Aviation Fuel certificates (SAFc)

  • Continued electrification of company vehicles

  • Smart energy use and reduced gas consumption at our Brackley factory

Where emissions remain, we invest in carbon removals, including nature-based solutions and pioneering technologies via partners like Frontier, Ecometric and Chestnut Carbon.

And because we know that meeting our own targets is just the start, we’re committed to sharing insights, scaling solutions and helping drive progress across our sport and wider industry.

Our Net Zero Projects

Our 2024 European Season Ran on Biofuel

We powered our European race season using HVO100 biofuel - cutting emissions without compromising performance.

  • 98% of our race and marketing trucks ran on HVO100 - a second-generation biofuel - saving more than 449 tCO₂e

  • Achieved 100% generator coverage for the first time, saving a further 61 tCO₂e

  • Delivered with the support of our Title and Technical Partner PETRONAS

  • First F1 team to adopt HVO100 at scale - and we’re not stopping here

Sustainable Aviation Fuel

We’re scaling the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to reduce the largest source of our logistics emissions. Our strategy is to create demand now by purchasing SAF certificates, and build supply for the future by investing in refinery capacity.

  • Covered 68% of aviation emissions with SAFc, saving 9,860 tCO₂e in 2024

  • Aiming to quadruple emissions savings from SAFc by end of 2025

  • First global sports team to invest via SAFc book-and-claim model

  • Supported wider transition by covering additional F1 freight flights with SAFc and sharing procurement best practice

Reducing the Impact of our Home

Phasing Out Gas: We’ve phased out gas by replacing gas-fired heating systems, installing heat recovery units, and transitioning gas boilers to electric solutions. Today, the factory is predominantly powered by electricity (100% REGO); any remaining gas is backed by RGGOs.

Transitioning to EV: We have been transitioning our company cars from petrol and diesel to electric fleet and in 2024, achieved a 26% reduction in company car fuel consumption.

Lift-sharing: Over 200 team members now regularly commute via lift share, with 4,918 shared journeys logged in 2024. This reduces emissions and commuting costs while boosting team connectivity.

Supply Chain Engagement

Tackling emissions from our supply chain - classified as Scope 3 emissions - is incredibly challenging. Our suppliers range from global logistics and hospitality providers to specialist SMEs making bespoke car components.

In 2024, we:

  • Hosted our first supplier sustainability event - practical guidance for small and mid-sized suppliers

  • Explored new opportunities with our suppliers for recycled and bio-based materials

  • Developed a new Supplier Code of Conduct

  • Introduced a new supplier screening tool, flagging potential risks with nightly checks

Our Sustainable Fuels Strategy

As a global sports team racing across five continents, it is essential we tackle emissions generated by how we move around the world.

These are some of the hardest emissions to abate, and we will only make progress by thinking beyond our own footprint.

By proving what’s possible with biofuels, scaling demand for SAFc, developing next-generation race fuels, and collaborating across our sport and supply chain, we’re helping to accelerate solutions that reach far beyond Formula One.

Our Carbon Removal Strategy

We’re investing now in removals that are durable, verifiable and scalable. Our strategy follows Oxford Offsetting Principles, combining nature-based and tech-led removals, supporting multiple geographies and methodologies to build resilience and market confidence.

Projects include:

  • Frontier: backing a portfolio of durable tech solutions including direct air capture

  • Blaston Farm: regenerative agriculture with AI-driven soil carbon monitoring

  • Chestnut Carbon: large-scale reforestation in the southeastern US

Collaboration at Every Level

Sustainability challenges can’t be solved in isolation. We are committed to sharing knowledge, sparking dialogue and building partnerships - both within motorsport and far beyond it.

  • Our Sustainability Working Group connects experts from our Team Partners to share ideas and challenges

  • As active members of the F1 ESG Working Group, we share best practice across the grid

  • We were the first motorsport team to sign The Climate Pledge, committing to Net Zero by 2040 across our total emissions
