A short, sharp downpour at the start of FP3 kept the drivers watching on from the garage for most of the session. Of those who did venture out, it was Valtteri who came out on top.
The lack of track action in FP3 did at least provide an opportunity for a good catch-up with Daimler Chairman Dr. Zetsche. As they say, every cloud has a silver lining!
When Qualifying got underway, Lewis was on fire from the outset, topping all three sessions to really stamp his mark on the weekend so far.
After a slightly more low-key start to Qualifying, Valtteri pushed his team-mate all the way in the final session and looked like he'd clinched it, only to be denied at the last moment.
As the flag fell, it was Lewis who claimed top spot - and he was clearly rather pleased with his car, giving it an affectionate pat on the nose as he climbed out to celebrate.
Valtteri was disappointed to miss out on pole by just a tenth of a second but after missing most of FP2 on Friday and the limited running of FP3, it was a fantastic recovery from the Finn.
It's now 75 pole positions in Formula One and counting for Lewis Hamilton. That's a stat that thoroughly deserves a thumbs up!
