• INSIGHT: Five Reasons We're Excited for the United States Grand Prix

The US GP is always one of the highlights of the year... here's why!

1. Good to be Back

Formula One teams, drivers and fans all love visiting Austin. It's one of the most popular spots on the calendar and has become a firm favourite since the US GP returned in 2012.

But, what makes Austin so special? Well, the list is quite long, so we'll keep it brief...

Visit downtown Austin and you'll be surrounded by an enormous array of incredible restaurants, serving some of the best food around. You're spoilt for choice over a race weekend!

One of Austin's many nicknames is the 'Live Music Capital of the World'. Wherever you go, live music won't be far away and there's so many genres to enjoy.

In general, though, Austin is a city with a brilliant buzz and atmosphere. Especially when F1's in town, because the city embraces the travelling circus with open arms.

Thanks for having us, Austin!

2. An F1 Driver's Playground

It's easy to see why the drivers are fans of the Circuit of the Americas, too. It's an unusual, fast and challenging track, packed with character.

Some of its corners have been heavily inspired by iconic sequences from around the world, including Maggots and Becketts at Silverstone and Istanbul's intense Turn 8.

When you combine these corner replicas with dramatic undulation changes, a variety of corner types and wide corner entries, it makes for some great racing.

COTA never disappoints when it comes to the on-track action, as well as the off-track spectacle. We can't wait to see what's in store this weekend!

3. Special Memories

Whenever we return to COTA, we're not just reminded of the delightful food, music and atmosphere of Austin, or the challenging nature of the race track.

We're also reminded of the incredible memories we have of racing at the United States Grand Prix since it returned to the calendar in 2012 in Texas.

COTA has been a happy hunting ground for us, with four wins from six starts, seven podiums and four pole positions.

It's also been the scene of some of our title deciders, such as last year, where P1 for Lewis and P5 for Valtteri secured our fourth Constructors' crown.

It's also a place that holds a special place in Lewis' heart. He loves the US and loves racing at COTA.

It shows in his stats, as he's taken five wins from six starts in Texas. COTA was also the scene of his third Championship triumph in 2015.

4. Familiar Faces & Big-Name Performers

The US GP is one of the glitziest weekends of the year, with a whole host of familiar faces and celebrities flocking to the Circuit of the Americas for the race.

COTA always delivers some big-name musical acts as well and 2018 is no different, with two huge stars performing over the race weekend.

Bruno Mars will be hitting the stage on Saturday evening after Qualifying, while Britney Spears will be performing after the race on Sunday evening.

Both concerts take place at the COTA Super Stage, which is in the infield between Turn 11 and 12. The Festival Lawn gates open around one hour after on-track activity ends - giving them time to transform this section of circuit into a concert venue.

5. Last But Not Least

Have you been collecting Lewis' special edition caps this year? They've been commemorating some of his favourite races on the 2018 F1 calendar.

Three have been released so far: Pink 2018 Monaco Cap, Blue 2018 British Cap and Red 2018 Singapore Cap.

Well, we won't give the colour and design of the fourth and final special edition cap away just yet, but we can say it it'll be hitting our official shop very soon.

So, keep your eyes peeled over the next few days to see what Lewis chose to celebrate the US GP!
