Bradley Lord is the Motorsport Communications Director for Mercedes-Benz. He’s been a fan of racing ever since his father took him to Castle Combe as a toddler, but growing up, he didn’t think combining his love for racing with a career could be possible.
However, during a “year abroad” from studying English and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford, he was given the chance to complete an internship at the Renault F1 Team. This opened the door for Bradley to return to the Enstone-based team at the conclusion of his studies in 2003, joining as a Press Officer, before becoming Senior Press Officer in 2006.
He left the team in 2008 to become Features Editor of F1 Racing and a columnist for Autosport – two of motorsport’s most high-profile and respected publications – but soon wanted to return to the team environment, re-joining Renault in 2010 to become Head of Communications. A year later, he took the opportunity to join Daimler AG as Motorsport Communications Manager and later, Head of F1 Communications for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team.
Describing his current role, Motorsport Communications Director, Bradley said: “They say variety is the spice of life and that’s certainly true for me. No two days are the same and there’s always a new or unexpected challenge just around the corner. My role is all about helping us connect with our stakeholders – the fans, our partners, our parent company and our team members – and trying to communicate with them openly, honestly and authentically.”
The values and culture of the team are what really stand out for Bradley, alongside the teamship – the feeling of being part of this remarkable group of people and team-mates.
His proudest moment? Being asked to represent the team on the podium at the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix, in the pouring rain – where his tactical raincoat helped him avoid the worst of the champagne shower that followed…
