Alex Powell Takes First Formula 4 Victory

Mercedes Junior Driver Alex Powell claimed his first win in single-seater racing at the weekend, a landmark moment for the American-Jamaican racer.

Alex was competing in the third round of the 2024 Formula 4 UAE series with the Mumbai Falcons, racing at the Dubai Autodrome.

In only his fifth weekend competing in single-seaters, the 16-year-old put in an impressive performance in race two, going from third in the reverse-grid race to take the lead by the end of lap one.

His advantage was wiped out later by a Safety Car but he was able to hold off the competition to take his first F4 victory.

Alex had already enjoyed an exciting first race of the weekend earlier in the day, going from the very back of the grid (after an issue in qualifying) to claiming the final point in P10.

That set him up for his strong starting position for race two, with the top 12 finishers in the first event of the weekend reversed for the race-two grid.

The impressive victory helped Alex move up to fifth place in the drivers’ standings.

Meanwhile our other Junior Drivers, Doriane Pin and Yuanpu Cui, were also racing in F4 UAE on the weekend.

Doriane had a good first race, finishing P7, but struggled in the next two and finished outside the points. Yuanpu showed some strong flashes of speed and impressed particularly in race three, where he was on the cusp of the points before an incident dropped him down the field.
