Sustainable high performance is a mindset that drives everything we do, from the precision of our engineering to the power of our teamwork and our relentless pursuit of improvement.

With our 2024 Sustainability Report now live, we have broken down all the key highlights from the past year and the target areas that will form the focus of our future sustainability goals.

“Our ambition is to become one of the most sustainable global professional sports teams,” says Toto.

“I am proud to lead a team who are committed to engineering change on and off the track.

“As you’ll see in this year’s report, we’ve gone from promises to proof points - at home, on the road, in the ways we go racing and, increasingly, beyond our world.”

On the Road

From road to air to trackside, innovation and partnerships helped us reduce emissions, pioneer cleaner fuels and leave a positive legacy in the places we go racing.

In 2024 we powered our European season using HVO100 biofuel - cutting emissions without compromising performance.

We achieved 100% generator coverage for the first time, saving 61 tCO₂e.

With the support of our Title and Technical Partner PETRONAS, we also achieved 98% coverage across our race and marketing trucks achieving a saving of more than 449 tCO₂e.

In 2022 we became the first global sports team to invest in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) which continues to help us reduce the largest source of our logistics emissions.

In 2024, we covered 68% of our aviation emissions with SAFc, saving 9,860 tCO₂e.

The target at the end of 2025 is to quadruple these emissions savings from our initial SAFc investment in 2022.

At the Track

In 2024, we were proactive in attempting to make a tangible difference in the communities that host us through the season.

The team undertook two beach clean-ups in Miami and Spain, collecting 45kg of waste, including 2,160 cigarette ends.

In the F1 paddock, we increased our focus on educational access for students from under-represented backgrounds.

31 students from the FIA Girls on Track programme joined us in Interlagos for garage tours and Q&As, and we partnered with Make-A-Wish and Great Ormond Street Hospital to offer life-changing visits. In Hungary, we were delighted to provide a sensory experience for local children with vision loss.

At Home - Minimising Our Environmental Impact

From energy use and biodiversity to wellbeing and inclusion, our factory continued to power sustainable high performance in 2024.

These efforts form a core part of our Net Zero ambition and demonstrate how environmental and social leadership begins on our own doorstep.

We have held ISO 14001 certification for over 10 years, and in 2024 we maintained our certification to the ISO 14001:2015 standard. Alongside this, we’ve retained the FIA Three-Star certification - something we have held since 2020.

We are phasing out gas by replacing gas-fired heating systems, installing heat recovery units, and transitioning gas boilers to electric solutions.

We have been transitioning our company cars from petrol and diesel to an electric fleet and, in 2024, achieved a 26% reduction in company car fuel consumption.

Over 200 team members now regularly commute via lift share, with 4,918 shared journeys logged in 2024. This reduces emissions and commuting costs while boosting team connectivity.

Energy wise, there was an 1% reduction in overall energy consumption vs 2022, and a 17% reduction in energy consumption per person since 2022.

From a waste perspective, we achieved a 14% reduction in total waste tonnes from 2023 (1% reduction from 2022)

There was a 26% reduction in food waste from 2023 through catering changes and donation of 1,200 surplus meals.

In 2024 surplus team kit was sorted, processed, and channelled into the best available next use. In all, we separated 1,022kg for recycling, donated 470kg to charity, and incinerated 222kg for energy recovery.

At Home - Fostering a Thriving, Inclusive Culture

We believe in a workplace where all team members feel respected, supported, and able to fulfil their potential.

Launched in 2020, Accelerate 25 is our five-year programme to increase diversity and inclusion across the team. We have exceeded our target of 25% of new hires from under-represented groups every year since 2021.

In 2024, we deepened our commitment to creating a safe, healthy, and high-performing environment.

By integrating physical and mental wellbeing with operational safety, we have built a culture where people feel supported to perform at their best and empowered to drive continuous improvement.

We are proud to use our platform, people, and resources to support those making a difference - from national charities to local volunteers.

By the end of 2024, we were able to raise a total of over £83,000 for our 2023-2024 Official Team Charity Partner, Mind

Furthermore, we donated £56,000+ to local groups across Brackley and surrounding areas and continued our long-standing support of the Brackley fireworks display, Brackley Food Bank and Brackley Elves.

In the Car

Tackling emissions from our supply chain - classified as Scope 3 emissions - is incredibly challenging.

From materials to manufacturing, we are always seeking to improve how our cars are designed, built, and delivered.

In 2024 we hosted our first supplier sustainability event offering practical guidance for suppliers including small and medium-sized organisations.

We also explored new opportunities with our suppliers for recycled and bio-based materials and developed a new Supplier Code of Conduct.

We have reduced scrap waste from our supply chain and since 2023 have seen a 10% reduction in the number of scrapped components. By identifying inefficiencies early and tightening tolerances, we are cutting material waste, avoiding rework, and building a leaner, more sustainable car.

Beyond Our World

Through collaborations, outreach and hands-on experiences, the programmes we support open opportunities for young people to understand and access the many roles that power a Formula One team.

Our approach focuses on two areas - supporting the next STEM generation and improving social mobility - while recognising the connection between these issues.

In 2024, 107 Mulberry STEM Academy students in year 10 and 12 completed the year-long programme in 2024. Over 200 students are now progressing through the pipeline, with a growing alumni network.

Through working with Stemettes, 82 girls and non-binary young people were supported in their career development. 74% of participants now aspire to STEAM careers, and 83% reported increased confidence.

Improving our social mobility efforts help create tangible routes into engineering for students who might not otherwise access them.

Since 2020, we have supported over 300 students from less advantaged backgrounds with the Sutton Trust. In 2024, 50 students visited our factory, 10 students completed work experience.

73 STEM students began university in 2024 with support from our Zero Gravity scholarship. 45% are first-generation university students, 17% progressed to Oxbridge.

Our AFBE Mentoring Programme doubled in size in 2024, pairing 20 students with our engineers. At the end of the scheme, 100% of our mentees reported greater confidence and career-readiness.

Governance

Strong governance allows us to perform at our best on and off the track and set a high standard in our support and beyond.

Our world is unique, and we recognise that the governance challenges in Formula One and the sports industry are distinct.

We are committed to best-in-class governance practices which underpin all our sustainability efforts.

They allow us to meet the high standards our stakeholders and fans expect and enable the team to operate effectively at speed.

Every Dream Needs a Team

Our work in sustainability matters and it belongs to all of us. Thank you to everyone across our team who helped shape this year’s sustainability achievements - and who continues to go above and beyond to show what’s possible when we act together.
