Watch: Mercedes-AMG Takes Tin Top Record at Bathurst

A specially modified version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 has broken the track record for a GT car at the famous Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst, Australia.

With Jules Gounon at the wheel, the modified GT3 machine lapped The Mountain course in a time of 1:56:6054 - more than two seconds quicker than the previous benchmark at an average speed of 191.5km/h.

The attempt was made as part of the demonstration events on the schedule at this year's Bathurst 12 Hours, where four AMG teams finished on the podium in their respective classes.

Changes on the GT3 for the run included the addition of F1-like DRS, card disk brakes, an unrestricted engine, and other aerodynamic modifications.

Gounon said: "It was one of the best laps I've ever had the chance to do here, because it was a big commitment."
