Shanghai Students Wow Lewis with Sustainability Innovation

A group of competition-winning students from Shanghai got the opportunity to meet with Lewis and discuss their ideas on biodiversity conservation and sustainable living.

Victors of the Student Voices contest - an English Speech Competition in Shanghai - had been tasked with showcasing their ideas on sustainable ideas and practices for the future.

The competition workshop, 'Driving Towards a Green Future, Powering the Voices of Youth, was supported by PETRONAS, in line with their 'Planting Tomorrow' initiative, which aims to educate young minds on the importance of conservation.

Lewis met the students after touching down in Shanghai before the Chinese Grand Prix, and was immediately impressed with the talent on display.

"It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm these young students have towards sustainable living," he said.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Chinese Grand Prix and the country's return to the F1 calendar, the competition - now in its fifth year - included a special emphasis on team collaboration.

The students' togetherness and work ethic also left an impression on Lewis.

"Similar to a Formula One race, teamwork is the key to performance, and seeing how well the three groups worked with and supported each other was great to see," added the seven-time world champion.

The Student Voices English Speech Competition is an annual event, jointly organised by Xinmin Evening News Community Edition, Shanghai Family, Parents & Kids, and HuMaNiuWa.

In five years, it has seen nearly 3,000 entrants from more than 80 schools in the region. This was the third year that PETRONAS has supported the event as an official partner.

Chief Representative of PETRONAS Beijing Representative Office, Lisy Lee said: "Not only has our collaboration with Student Voices played a vital role in attracting young minds to deepen their understanding and awareness of sustainable development for the future, but it serves as a platform for us to foster a shared understanding of our collective responsibility."
