Team On a ‘Positive Trajectory’: Lewis and George Preview Monaco

A week on from the start of the European season in Imola, the paddock has arrived at the jewel in F1’s crown.

This weekend’s 81st Monaco Grand Prix will see the Team aim to continue its positive direction with W15, off the back of a P6, P7 finish last time out in Italy.

Recent upgrades to our 2024 challenger have left Lewis and George more confident and optimistic for the upcoming races.

“The car is more predictable and enjoyable to drive. It is not perfect but we are going in the right direction,” said Lewis.

“We are on a good trajectory,” added George.

“We are going to carry on bringing upgrades to the car that we are confident will bring performance.

“We are entering the European season, with more consistent weekends and fewer Sprint races. We know from the past we are good at building through a season.”

The tight and twisty layout means the difference between the highest and lowest speed corners is much less around the principality.

“We have seen this season how we have struggled to find the balance at tracks with high and low speed corners,” said George.

“With a more consistent cornering speed here, we are hoping to be more competitive.

“Monaco is so challenging, you really do need to find that sweet spot. A good Friday means nothing, you must be ready to adapt on Saturday and Sunday.”

Lewis added: “We should be a little better here. The window is starting to open up in terms of performance between high and low.

“This is a work in progress, but we hope to be a bit better than it was last year here.”

Monaco’s unique nature will not be a definitive test of where our car is at, but Lewis and George’s W15 will continue to develop as we head towards the summer break, thanks to the dedicated teams and Brackley and Brixworth.

Lewis said: “I cannot predict the future for the season, but we will continue to push.

“How we work together and we are continuing to stay focused and motivated is inspiring for me.”

George added: “We have moved forward from the start of the season, but so have McLaren and Ferrari at the same rate.

“We need to keep working, and bringing those upgrades. I know everyone is working flat our to bring those as quick as possible.”

Whatever the next three days bring, it is always a pleasure to race around the streets, the pearl of our sport.

More than a quarter of a century after his first visit, the circuit still makes an impression on Lewis.

“I always feel blown away when I come in every morning, look over this place and remember the history,” he said.

“I first came here when I was 13, and it is surreal that I am still one of the 20 who gets to do it.

“Going through the tunnel and remembering that Ayrton and Prost drove through there well. It is just more special.”
