Brackley, UK

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced suspension design engineer within the mechanical group. We are looking for an engineer with knowledge in advanced structural composites, able to develop ideas from concept to car while managing the right level of "prove out" to ensure extremely high levels of reliability, whilst pushing performance and innovation.

The role with primarily focus on the design of wishbones in one of the suspension groups with opportunities to also work on a range of mechanical and composite design projects. This role is ideal for someone who has extensive experience in composite design who is keen to either broaden their experience or split their time between working on complex composite and mechanical assemblies. Mechanical design experience is not a prerequisite for the right candidate, previous experience of designing metallic assemblies would however be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Development of wishbone design from concept to race car.

  • Lead research into the next evolution of structural composite wishbone design, improving reliability, efficiency and integration with aerodynamic surfaces.

  • Develop component testing methodologies in our Test and Development laboratory.

  • Collaborate with FEA department to optimise structural design and processes.

  • Collaborate with our Materials Science department to ensure designs and laminates are at the cutting edge of technology.

  • Drive forward composite design standards ensuring adoption of latest techniques improving capability across the mechanical group.

  • Understand manufacturing processes and tooling fundamentals and apply to projects whilst maintaining structural performance, cost and weight targets.

  • Design of a range of other none wishbone design projects, composite and mechanical of varying complexity to the highest standards (including all required proof of concepts, tooling and assembly drawings).

About You

  • Mechanical, composite, automotive or aeronautical engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualification.

  • Substantial and recent high level structural composite design experience in F1, another top level motorsport category or an equivalent high level engineering industry.

  • Excellent knowledge of composite components, composite science, tooling systems, materials and industry production techniques.

  • Understanding and use of finite element analysis tools and hand calculation methodologies to produce reliable and optimised designs, analysing and questioning results as appropriate.

  • High level of commitment and self-responsibility with ability and confidence to work independently whilst showing a tenacious approach to leading projects to strict deadlines.

  • Ability to effectively and confidently communicate at all levels
