About the Role:

Systems Engineers play a key role in preparing and delivering world-class test capability for MGP and our customers. We have an exciting opportunity for a Dyno Systems Engineer to join our Dyno Group, and the successful candidate will take responsibility for the installation, configuration and health of on-car electronic systems and data acquisition during test events.

Key Accountabilities (Duties):

  • Own the preparation of the on-car control system for the system under test, and work collaboratively with the electronics and controls departments to ensure that the correct hardware and software configurations are applied.

  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of electrical hardware and I/O for test – including keeping the logging schedule up to date and communicating this to stakeholders.

  • Monitor the performance and health of both chassis and Power Unit systems through live data analysis during test events and conduct post-test reporting as per MGP protocols.

  • Report issues as they arise and take responsibility for relevant feedbacks.

  • Development of post-processing and data visualisation tools to improve efficiency and accuracy of future events.

  • Develop a working knowledge of dyno control systems.

  • Act as champions for data quality to minimise the need to perform repeat tests.

  • Manage and maintain the Dyno CAN communication network and the calibration and validation of dyno test hardware.

  • Maintenance of concise and relevant operational procedures.

  • Support the Lead Dyno Test Engineer & Operations Manager as required for key Dyno Group capability projects from their conception to testbed delivery.

  • Contribute to the success of the wider dyno group by constructively highlighting areas of inefficiency / opportunity and contributing to resolution and improvement.

  • Proactively develop relationships within the Dyno Group and with the wider team – to share best practises and implement learning from similar functions.

  • Support delivery of wider Dyno and business activities – including but not limited to Dyno Customer Programmes, Power Unit Testing at HPP.

Candidate Profile:

Essential:

  • Familiarity with MES ATLAS, System Monitor and the F1 Standard ECU.

  • Interest in control system development.

  • High attention to detail and the ability to work independently under limited supervision and to tight deadlines with a professional manner.

  • Flexibility in hours and approach, with a “can do” / “team playing” attitude.

  • Strong electrical diagnostics and investigation capability.

  • Ability to interrogate and read Electrical drawings to provide initial triage/investigation into wiring issues.

  • Practical and theoretical knowledge of layout and operations of high-end motorsport transmission, hydraulic and/or Power Unit Systems.

  • Ability to listen, communicate clearly and make informed decisions within a pressurised time-constrained environment.

  • Active interest in technical problem solving.

  • Curious, committed to continuous learning and ability to adapt quickly to change.

Desirable:

  • IET Wiring Regulations qualification to 17th or 18th Edition.

  • Familiarity of Mil-Spec wiring.

  • Experience with CAN bus diagnostic tools (CANalyzer).

  • Formula 1 specific transmission, hydraulic, and/or Power Unit Systems knowledge.

  • Proficiency with one or more of Python, C++, C#, Matlab, Javascript, Node.js, Microsoft Excel/VBA.

  • Previous trackside motorsport experience.

  • Experience with industrial PLC systems, BMS and/or Beckhoff automation.

  • Experience with AVL Dyno/testbeds and PUMA 2 automation system (incl. Concerto).

  • Experience with other communications protocols e.g. Profibus / EtherCAT/RS-232.

  • Ability to mentor and support the learning of others.

  • Experience with HV motorsport systems and associated Power Electronics.

  • Calibration experience of typical Dyno based instrumentation / measurement devices (e.g. flow-meters, torque-meters, accelerometers).
