Junior Update: Win For Yuanpu and Solid Points for Kimi

It was a weekend of points, progress, and podiums for our Junior Drivers last weekend.

We had our young drivers racing in various locations across Europe, in Formula 2, FRECA and Formula 4.

For Kimi Antonelli, he was competing on the streets of Monaco for the first time in F2. It was Round 5 of his 2024 season and he showed good progress across the weekend.

In his first Qualifying session in the principality, he was fourth quickest in his group (they split the session into two groups) and that meant a P7 starting position for Sunday’s main Feature Race.

In the Sprint on Saturday, he finished fourth, equalling his best finishing position of the season so far (from the Australia Feature and the Imola Feature).

On Sunday, he scored the fastest lap of the race and crossed the line in P7, having lost out in the pit stop phase. Nevertheless, he scored solid points on his first time racing in Monaco.

“The car performed great during the Feature Race, it is a shame we got stuck in traffic,” said Kimi.

“I finished in P7 and that is important for the championship,” he added.

Kimi heads to Barcelona in two weeks’ time having retained his P6 position in the standings.

Yuanpu Cui was racing at Snetterton in the UK for his next British F4 round and the Chinese driver scored his first F4 victory in the second race of the weekend.

It was a dominant display from Yuanpu, pulling out a commanding lead initially but a late Safety Car cut his advantage. He managed to hold onto the lead to take his first win in F4 and the British series too.

Meanwhile over at Spa-Francorchamps, Doriane Pin was competing in her second Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine weekend with Iron Dames.

She started P23 for Race 1 and finished in P22, battling hard right until the end. Unfortunately, she didn’t take part on Race 2 due to illness but will be back in a few weeks’ time at Zandvoort to go again in FRECA.

“I loved being in Spa and learning the track in a single seater, but unfortunately, I did not feel well on Sunday and made the decision to not race.

“I am now focused on recovery and the next races.”

It’s another busy week of racing ahead for the Juniors with Alex Powell in action in Italian F4 at Imola. Our karters Luna Fluxa and Kenzo Craigie will be driving in Round 3 of Champions of the Future in Slovakia too.
