What Are the Tyre Options for the 2026 Australian GP?

As F1 enters a new era of regulations in Australia this weekend, there will also be a new range of Pirelli tyres be on display.

While cars will still have 18-inch wheels, front tyre width has decreased by 25mm and rear tyre with by 30mm in comparison to 2025.

In 2026, there will be five compounds of dry tyres to choose from across the season – C1, C2, C3, C4 & C5.

Each weekend, Pirelli will select three of these compounds as the Soft, Medium and Hard tyre. The decision is made based upon track characteristics and potential strategies.

Here’s how this weekend’s allocation looks for teams up and down the paddock at Albert Park:

Tyre

Compound

Number of Sets

Soft

C5

8

Medium

C4

3

Hard

C3

2

As always, teams will also have four sets of intermediate tyres and three sets of the full wet tyre to deal with any adverse weather conditions across a course of a weekend.

Drivers who reach the final part of qualifying (Q3) will also receive an extra set of Soft tyres.

All drivers must use at least two different compounds of tyre during a dry Grand Prix.

Tyre allocations for a Sprint weekend will vary accordingly, but more on that next week.
