What Is the Weather Forecast for the 2026 Australian GP?

5 March 2026
6 Min Read

It’s easy to think of Melbourne in March as slam dunk for wall-to-wall sunshine, but sometimes the skies have other ideas.

In 2025, rain just before the start of the Grand Prix caused havoc among the grid, catching out both rookie racers and experienced pros.

In fact, through the years Albert Park has seen its fair share of downpours across the course of a Grand Prix weekend.

Three sessions in the past six editions of the event have been run in the rain, most notably the majority of last season's race.

Mathematicians among you may be interested to know there is an 10% chance of rain based on previous data.

Here’s what we can all expect this time around:

Friday:

The first live session of 2026 will play out under sunshine in Melbourne, with highs of around 25C.

There will be some cloud, but that will only bring shade to those watching and nothing more, with the chance of precipitation at 1%

Saturday:

Quali day will be slightly cooler with highs of 21C, and there will be more cloud clover around, too.

If we are to see rain this weekend, this will be the day, with the probability currently at around 25%.

Sunday:

We’re unlikely to see any repeat of last season, though, with the chance of rain diminishing again by lights out on Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures will be back up in the mid-twenties (24C) and there will be even less cloud cover, too.
