For the first time in nine years, Formula 1 is racing in Malaysia at the beloved Sepang International Circuit.
In the 19 championship Grands Prix held at Sepang, the venue became renowned for its challenging, high-speed layout – and some of the most unpredictable weather the sport has ever seen.
For fans of racing in the wet, who have been left parched by an unusually dry season by modern standards, this weekend’s event is looking likely to slake their thirst. There’s a significant chance of rain on all three track days, meaning that this new generation of cars could get their boots wet for the first time.
Malaysia’s tropical climate means intense heat and humidity for the drivers. Those conditions will no doubt travel with us to Singapore next weekend!
Here’s the weekend’s weather watch:
Friday: High temperatures of 31C for FP1 and FP2, with a significant chance of rain in the morning and early afternoon.
Saturday: A similar story on Qualifying day – slightly raised temperatures of 32C, likely rain in the morning and afternoon, and humidity reaching a punishing 98%.
Sunday: A slightly cooler day for the Grand Prix: 31C, with rain and cloud cover less likely.
