Team Wins Positive Impact Award

Accelerate 25 initiative recognised by Princess Grace Foundation in Monaco

The Team was presented with the first-ever Grace Influential Positive Impact Award in Monaco on Friday night, in recognition of our Accelerate 25 programme. Senior figures from within the sport came together to celebrate the accolade, which seeks to recognise Formula One teams’ commitment and positive impact on society and/or to the environment.

His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, Greg Maffei, CEO of Liberty Media, Brisa Carleton, CEO of the Princess Grace Foundation, and Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, presented Toto with the winning trophy, Gilded Mediterranean Blue Venetian with Speckled Leaves 2022 by renowned artist Dale Chihuly.

Bradley Lord, Chief Communications Officer, said: “We are delighted to be recognised as the first recipients of the Princess Grace Positive Impact Award, especially given the quality of the projects that are happening across all the F1 teams. It was great to see how all the teams are using the sport’s global platform to inspire and enable opportunity.

“At Mercedes, we believe that a more diverse and inclusive team drives greater performance on track. Led by our fantastic Human Resources group, Accelerate 25 was launched in December 2020 to realise every advantage of becoming a more diverse team. So far, we have seen positive changes in the make-up of our team and created inspirational experiences for young people to show how F1 can be a STEM career opportunity in the future.

“This is a long-term commitment, and we are only at the beginning of our journey; we will continue our work in the months and years ahead, to help build a more inclusive sport and become a more performant Mercedes team.”

First launched in 2020, our Accelerate 25 initiative aims to see 25% of new team members come from under-represented groups by 2025. The first two years of the programme have seen female representation increase by 25% and the number of employees from a minority ethnic background tripling.

Our work with multiple STEM partnerships and initiatives also serves to help students under-represented groups towards STEM careers.

Grace Influential is a global initiative led by the Princess Grace Foundation which celebrates and upholds the charitable legacy of Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco. The Foundation is recognized for its prestigious awards program celebrating excellence and positive change.

Our work to embed sustainability into every decision we make and action we take continues in other areas too. Last week saw the Team announce the use of HV100 biofuels in our race trucks for the entire 2023 European F1 race season.
